Marc Wicks MBE, former Corps Sergeant Major with 32 years of service in the Royal Marines, shares his experience of Phoenix training.
When Aryan joined the Phoenix Close Protection Course, he worried his age and lack of experience might hold him back. Instead, he discovered that mindset matters more than background. Through the course, he learned to trust himself, stay composed, and stay committed — not just interested. In his own words, belief and commitment made all the difference.
After serving in the Marines, Pete joined the Phoenix Close Protection Course seeking something that would truly develop his skills — and found it. He described it as a “rollercoaster experience” that pushed him further than any hostile-style training could. By the end, he’d led a team for the first time and proved to himself that he could do it. His advice to others: “If you want real learning and progression — come here.”
Chris started the course unsure of himself, stepping in “like a deer in headlights.” By the end of the Phoenix Close Protection Course, Chris had faced his fears head-on and built genuine confidence under pressure. Through the 4 x Live Operations scenarios and team support, Chris left as a completely different person — calm, capable, and prepared for the challenges ahead in his career. Keep up the great work Chris.
Whilst still serving in the Army, Rebecca joined Phoenix to explore new opportunities and take control of her career. She valued the mix of theory and realistic, hands-on training — learning through real operations rather than just the classroom. In her words, “You learn the hard way, but that’s what makes you better — I wouldn’t have had it any other way.” All the best with your transition Rebecca.
